Court finds 45 guilty in 32-year-old Belpahari murder case

Jhargram: A Jhargram court on Tuesday found 45 guilty in the 1993 murder of six CPM workers in Belpahari's Diyashi village. Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday.
On May 8, 1993, six CPM workers — Bhakti Mahato, Kartik Mahato, Bidyut Mahato and Madhav Mahato from Diyashi, Manoj Garai from Hijla, and Samir Mukherjee from Shilda — were taken to Ethela forest and murdered.
During the investigation, police filed charges against 103 individuals. The 45 convicted and taken into custody on Tuesday are those surviving among the accused in the 32-year-old case.
Govt lawyer Prashanta Ray stated, "In the murder case of six people from the Belpahari PS area, 45 individuals have been found guilty. The court will announce the sentence on Wednesday."
