BJP BLA bashed up allegedly by TMC while distributing forms in Durgapur

A Booth Level Assistant (BLA) for the BJP was assaulted yesterday afternoon allegedly by Trinamul Congress supporters when he refused to leave the area assigned to him while accompanying the Booth Level Officer (BLO) in carrying out enumeration work. The injured BLA had to be admitted to a hospital in the township last evening.
Sukumar Singh, the BLA (2) assigned by the BJP for the Chittaranjan Das locality in the A-Zone area of Durgapur Steel Township, was accosted while distributing enumeration forms in the locality along with the BLO. Singh said: “The concerned BLO had asked me to join him for distribution of forms and during the work, I was suddenly attacked unprovoked by the Trinamul Congress members.”
He alleged: “They were asking me to vacate the area, which I declined to do. They suddenly attacked me and thrashed me badly in the presence of the BLO.”
The incident triggered a commotion in the locality and political repercussions within the BJP. Singh was rushed to the hospital by the BJP cadres. Chandrasekhar Banerjee, district vice president of the BJP, said today: “The Trinamul Congress has unleashed terror in a planned manner to frighten our men to the extent that they stay away from participating in the form distribution process. When persons like Singh dare to pay no heed to their intimidations, they are beaten up like this.”
The TMC has refuted Banerjee’s charges and denied allegiance with any such incident. Rajib Ghosh, TMC president of No: 1 Block here, said: “Our men never attacked the BJP cadres during enumeration form distribution. It’s simply a drama planted by the BJP. That man might have suffered injuries because of an internal squabble.”
The district administration has not registered any complaint or recorded any such incident as the BJP is yet to lodge charges with the District Election Officer.The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Durgapur, Sumon Biswas, said: “We haven’t received any such complaint as yet.”
