Left front including the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI, Forward Bloc on Tuesday strongly condemned the bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro station, describing it as a “dastardly” attack and expressing deep anguish over the loss of lives.
In an official statement issued by the party’s Politburo, the CPI-M said the explosion — which took place barely hours after a large cache of explosives was recovered from the outskirts of Delhi — pointed to the operation of a “well-coordinated terrorist network.” The party called upon the Union government to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation to identify and punish those responsible. “The Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the dastardly bomb attack in the heart of the national capital, Delhi,” the statement read.
“The recovery of huge quantities of explosives from nearby areas and the subsequent blast underline the need for greater vigilance. It is the responsibility of the government to unearth the entire conspiracy and bring the perpetrators to justice.” Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the CPI-M extended solidarity with those injured in the explosion and urged the authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for them. “The Politburo conveys its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wishes a speedy recovery to all those injured,” the party said.
The CPI-M also appealed to citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to divisive or provocative attempts in the aftermath of the incident. “The party appeals to all sections of the people to maintain peace and harmony and to stay vigilant against any efforts to create communal tension,” the statement added.
Earlier, CPI-M general secretary MA Baby expressed his condolences through a social media post, terming the explosion “deeply painful” and urging the government to ensure prompt medical attention for the injured and a speedy investigation to bring the culprits to book.
