The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Election Commission of India on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) now underway in West Bengal and other states and asked the petitioners to file their affidavits entailing details of their alleged apprehensions over the process.
The Division Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalyo Bagchi of the Supreme Court also asked the petitioners over the causes of their concerns regarding the roll out of the SIR and asked them why they were so afraid of?
The Bench also directed the high courts to keep in abeyance the petitions filed in relation to the SIR of the states where the process is in process and Bihar.
The Court will hear the matter on November 26.
The counsel of the petitioners, however, in turn wanted to know why the poll panel was in a hurry to accomplish the job in such a short span of time?
