  • Kolkata: In the fifth such incident since Sept, a mobile phone was snatched at the bustling Panchannagram crossing on Monday.

At 10.50 am on Monday, Selim Malik, a resident of Martinpara off EM Bypass, was targeted by two unidentified young men.

The assailants, who were not wearing helmets, approached Malik on a motorcycle while he was booking a cab and snatched his mobile phone.

The duo then fled towards VIP Bridge.

The incident has added to the growing list of mobile thefts in the area, which has become a cause for concern among residents and commuters alike. The development comes on the same day that Shakespeare Sarani Police has nabbed two snatchers — Md Chand and Md Reezaul — for allegedly carrying out a spate of snatchings in south Kolkata. "The area has been divided into three separate police divisions – South Suburban, Southeast, and East. We are planning better coordination to stop such incidents," said an officer.
