Autopsy done after prof lodges plaint over dog death on IIT-Kgp campus

Kharagpur: A dog-loving professor at IIT Kharagpur lodged a complaint with police, seeking an autopsy to determine the cause death of a dog on Tuesday. Following the complaint, the autopsy was conducted at the State Animal Health Center in Midnapore on Wednesday.
The professor, a member of the Kharagpur Pradyogiki Animal Welfare Society, had rescued the dog from DVC Road within the IIT campus earlier on Tuesday. According to sources, the incident is suspected to be a case of poisoning within the campus.
"The dog ate sometime between 9am and 10am on Tuesday. Around 1pm, we received news that she had fallen ill. She was rescued, placed in a cage and treatment was initiated. She died around 5pm," said a campus insider. The source added that over the two years, eight dogs and two cats had died under similar circumstances in the same area.
