Kolkata: Bengal BJP on Wednesday submitted a list of over 13 lakh voters against whom it had spotted "double or triple entry" to the Election Commission.
"We have submitted a pen drive with the EC containing the names of 13, 25, 000 voters.
They were voters with either double or triple entries. We have also submitted hard copies of the voters from five Lok Sabha constituencies.
We were assured that the commission will investigate these cases," said leader of the opposition in the state assembly Suvendu Adhikari.
BJP has been alleging that Trinamool was trying to shield multiple entries in the voter list and dead voters.
"Trinamool BLAs are forcing BLOs to issue forms in the name of dead voters.
The EC will have to ensure that the names of dead voters are deleted from the voter list. EC can collect data from burial grounds and crematoriums. The Samabyathi scheme of the state govt also has data sets, and EC has demanded access to that. Another set of data about dead voters can be gathered from the list of widow pensioners," said Union minister Sukanta Majumdar.
Adhikari said 65 specific allegations had also been raised about BLOs' functioning. "We earlier submitted allegations about the violation of EC norms in the selection of around 5,700 BLOs. We are yet to get the compliance report about each of these cases. However, the Election Commission is looking into these allegations," Adhikari said.
