Trainee doc held for molesting minor on med college campus

Kolkata: A 32-year-old third-year postgraduate trainee (PGT) doctor at Barasat Medical College and Hospital in North 24-Parganas was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl under the pretext of examining her before a surgery.
The accused, identified as Dinanath Kumar, a resident of Bihar, was arrested by the police based on a complaint lodged with Barasat police station by the minor girl's family.
According to police sources, the teenage girl went to the hospital for preliminary tests and treatment before her scheduled appendix surgery. It is alleged that during the check-up, the third-year PGT doctor molested her under the pretext of a medical examination.
The victim later narrated the incident to her family, who subsequently lodged a complaint with the police against the doctor. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Dinanath Kumar and initiated an investigation.
Abhijit Saha, MSVP of Barasat Medical College and Hospital, said, "On Thursday afternoon, the woman's father submitted a written complaint to me. Based on the complaint, the hospital authorities have constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the incident."
Hospital sources confirmed that the accused, Dinanath Kumar, originally from Bihar, is a third-year postgraduate trainee residing at the boys' hostel on the medical college campus.
Additional superintendent Subrata Mondal said, "Police have arrested the accused doctor based on a specific complaint, and the matter is under investigation."
"The accused was arrested and produced before a Barasat court on Thursday after being charged under Sections 351(2)/74/76 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 8 of the POCSO Act", said Atish Biswas, ASP, Barasat.
Section 351 deals with criminal intimidation, Section 74 covers assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, and Section 76 addresses the offence of assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intent to disrobe her.
The accused has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after being produced in a Barasat court on Thursday afternoon.
