As the winter travel season takes off, IndiGo has added a new international destination to its growing network, launching direct flights between Kolkata and Siem Reap, Cambodia — the gateway to the world-famous Angkor Wat.
With this, IndiGo becomes the first Indian carrier to offer a direct air link between India and Cambodia. The thrice-weekly flights, operated on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays by Airbus A320neo aircraft, are expected to give a significant boost to tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries. Siem Reap marks IndiGo’s 46th international and 140th overall destination, underscoring the airline’s rapid international expansion from its eastern hub in Kolkata.
“We are glad to launch our inaugural flight to Siem Reap, which not only expands our network across Southeast Asia but also enhances our global connectivity from Kolkata,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. “This new service reflects IndiGo’s commitment to connecting people, cultures, and opportunities across Asia.” Travel and tourism stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that easier access and Cambodia’s visa-on-arrival and e-visa facilities will likely encourage more Indian tourists to explore the cultural and architectural marvels of Angkor Wat and beyond. As temperatures dip and travel demand rises, the new connection is expected to open up fresh avenues for leisure tourism, offering travellers from eastern India a seamless link to one of Asia’s most captivating heritage destinations this winter.
