  • As counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly polls will begin on Friday morning, the political parties here will be keenly watching the outcome in the neighbouring state since West Bengal is the next to go for elections early next year.

While ruling TMC will be rooting for Mahaghatbandhan of RJD, Congress and other small parties to win, the opposition BJP will get a boost if the NDA returns to power in Bihar once again.

Also, as this was Bihar first election after a hurriedly called Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls by the Election Commission, the TMC will be keenly watching the results as it is opposed to the ongoing exercise in the state.

The first Test Match between India and South Africa will begin at Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. In the wake of the Delhi car blast that killed at least nine people, security has been tightened in the city, especially at the Edens.

To ensure the smooth flow of spectators and maintain public safety throughout the five-day cricketing event, Kolkata Police has rolled out a comprehensive traffic regulation plan, marking a significant shift in vehicular movement, particularly in the central business and Maidan areas. Major arteries serving BBD Bag will see diversions, with specific rerouting for buses and minibuses from north, east, and south Kolkata. Furthermore, strict ‘No Parking’ zones have been enforced around Eden Gardens, and the movement of all goods vehicles is temporarily suspended during the match hours.

The West Bengal Circle of India Post will host the four-day BONGOPEX 2025 – the state-level philatelic exhibition  – at Science City, Kolkata. The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Governor CV Ananda Bose at 11:30 am. The event will feature the release of special philatelic issues, cultural performances, and several youth-oriented activities celebrating Bengal’s cultural and historical legacy.

The Congress will observe the 137th birth anniversary of Late Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The day is also celebrated as Children’s Day in the country.
