• Bihar results buoy BJP leaders in north Bengal

  • Buoyed by the Bihar Assembly election results, BJP leaders in north Bengal are increasingly confident that they can wrest power in West Bengal in 2026—provided the Election Commission of India carries out a thorough Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to identify and delete false and ghost voters.

Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, who has been camping in Siliguri and touring the northern districts for the past few days, appeared visibly upbeat during booth-level work under the Matigara-Naxalbari Assembly constituency on Friday.

Adding to the BJP’s enthusiasm, senior Trinamul Congress leader Khageswar Roy from Patharghata, along with hundreds of supporters, joined the BJP on Thursday evening in the presence of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

A special organisational meeting of the Siliguri Zone was held yesterday, attended by Sunil Bansal, national general secretary; Suvendu Adhikari; and Biplab Kumar Deb, MP and West Bengal BJP election co-in-charge. The meeting focused on strengthening outreach initiatives in the backdrop of the ongoing SIR verification by the ECI and on guiding workers on how to “best assist citizens” during the process. BJP MPs, MLAs, and district leaders from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar were also present.

This morning, Biplab Deb and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista attended a Shaktikendra-level organisational meeting at Kotia Jote in Naxalbari Gram Panchayat. Bista reminded party workers that the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency is predominantly rural, with nearly 60 per cent of its population living outside urban areas. “Shaktikendras are our first point of contact in rural Bengal,” he said, highlighting guidance received from Deb.

Siliguri zone in-charge Bapi Goswami, BJP Siliguri president Arun Mandal, Matigara–Naxalbari MLA Anandamayee Barman, and several district leaders continued the outreach programmes across Siliguri.

“As we celebrate the NDA’s Bihar victory, it inspires hope for West Bengal’s future as well. We are confident that the momentum from Bihar will catalyze a similar wave in Bengal, empowering citizens to demand an accountable governance,” Raju Bista said.

Within the organisation, many leaders echoed Samik Bhattacharya’s political pitch that the Bihar mandate is a defining moment for the region.

“The NDA’s victory in Bihar is not just an election result—it is a clear indication of a major political shift coming in eastern India,” Bhattacharya said on social media. “In Bihar, people have finally rejected the politics of dynastic rule, corruption, and deception. The support for development, transparency, and stability is now being felt most strongly in Bengal.”

Sharpening his criticism of the Trinamul Congress, Bhattacharya pointed to long-standing allegations of corruption and administrative disorder.
