  • A woman constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) single-handedly chased down and apprehended a suspected Bangladeshi smuggler attempting to traffic Ganja across the international border from India on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 3:00 PM, near Border Outpost Sutia in North 24 Parganas district when Banita Jena, posted under the 67 Battalion of the BSF’s South Bengal Frontier (Krishna Nagar Sector), noticed an individual moving towards the international boundary with a bicycle.

When Constable Jena warned the individual to stop, he abandoned the bicycle and immediately began running towards the border in an attempt to flee.

Jena gave chase alone, seeking assistance from local residents who helped her apprehend the person.

The BSF recovered a bicycle and a packet containing Ganja from the arrested individual. The arrested person and the seized items have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action, an official said.

Nilotpal Kumar Pandey, DIG, Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier, praised Jena’s dedication, saying, “Our vigilant and dedicated personnel, especially our Mahila personnel, have been standing firm with unparalleled alertness and commitment to curb trans-border crimes.”
