Kolkata: The mercury crawled up marginally on Saturday in Kolkata, even as the Met office predicted slightly warmer days ahead.
The minimum temperature was 17.6°C, while the maximum climbed a degree to touch 28.2°C.
Both may climb a degree on Sunday.
A low-pressure area off the Andhra coast has led to an alteration of the wind pattern that will pull up the mercury marginally over the next few days. The temperature may not dip below the normal mark till Nov 28, said the Regional Meteorological Centre.
Both the minimum and maximum temperatures remained two notches below normal on Saturday. "The chilly northwesterly will now be interrupted by a change in wind pattern triggered by the low-pressure that will have no direct impact on Bengal.
Easterly winds from the sea will now start flowing into south Bengal, pulling the temperature near the normal mark by Monday. The minimum may crawl up to 20°C by Monday, and it will hover around that mark for the next two weeks," said HR Biswas, deputy director-general of Meteorology.
The minimum temperature in Kolkata dropped below 20°C for the first time this season last Sunday, ushering in the first hint of a winter chill. Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 17.1°C, three notches below the normal mark, on Friday.
