  • The The Darjeeling Welfare Society (DWS), led by its founder-president and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla, inaugurated Rozgar Mela 2.0 in Siliguri on Saturday. The two-day job fair, held at Salesian College near Don Bosco School, is being billed as north Bengal’s largest employment event, featuring more than 60 companies and over 10,000 job openings across various sectors.

RSS All-India Sampark Pramukh Ramlal formally inaugurated the fair in the presence of MPs Samik Bhattacharya and Jayanta Kumar Roy and others. The closing session on Sunday will be addressed by Governor CV Ananda Bose.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ramlal emphasised the importance of self-employment in strengthening India’s economy, particularly as the nation works towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

“India is moving with determination towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. When India progresses, the world progresses too. A strong, self-reliant India will guide the global community in the years to come,” he said. He urged the youth to embrace entrepreneurship, skill development and innovation instead of depending solely on government jobs.

Ahead of the mela, three youths from Mirik and Kalimpong ~ Kishor Kumar Debnath, Bhavika Pradhan and Aditya Gurung ~ secured job offers based solely on their CVs. Two were recruited by Ancil Services and one by Piston Technologies. Organisers said these early placements demonstrate the scale and potential of Rozgar Mela 2.0.

Ramlal is currently touring Darjeeling district as part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary celebrations. Earlier in the day, he attended a programme at Sukhdham, run by the Brahma Kumaris in Siliguri.

A senior organisational figure in the Sangh and the BJP, Ramlal joined the RSS as a pracharak in 1974. He later served as braj prant pracharak in 1999 and subsequently as the north-west kshetra pracharak. From 2006 to 2019, he held the key post of national general secretary (organisation) of the BJP. He became the RSS’s All-India co–sah-sampark pramukh in 2020 and has been serving as the All-India sampark pramukh since 2021. He is currently based in Mumbai.
