The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has picked up a Punjab-based doctor from West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district for questioning in connection with the probe into the car blast near the Red Fort in the national capital in which 10 people were killed and several others were injured. 

Dr Jahnisar Alam, who completed his MBBS degree from Al-Falah University, Faridabad, in 2024, was visiting his relatives in Uttar Dinajpur’s Dalkhola when he was picked up from a market on Friday by the probe agency. The agencies’ investigation has indicated that doctors from Al-Falah University were linked to the November 10 explosion. 

Dr Alam along with his father Touhid runs a clinic in Punjab’s Ludhiana, it is learnt.

According to sources, Alam was taken to Siliguri and is being questioned in connection with the car explosion. 

Alam’s family hails from Dalkhola but moved to Ludhiana years ago, their relatives said. He studied in Ludhiana before enrolling for MBBS at Al-Falah University.

Speaking to mediapersons, Alam’s uncle Abul Kasem said, “He has been picked up in connection with the Delhi blasts. We came to know that all his MBBS batchmates from Al Falah University are being questioned.”

“Alam, his mother and sister came here on Wednesday to attend a relative’s engagement on November 16. We heard that the investigators went to his house in Ludhiana before coming here,” he added.

Kasem said after being picked up, Alam called his mother informing her that he was detained for questioning. “Later, he informed us that they took him to Siliguri. We don’t know what he has done. He is a sincere man,” he said.
