Kolkata: An altercation at an eatery in the early hours of Sunday, involving an engaged couple and a restaurant staffer, allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with both parties filing cop complaints against each other.
According to the couple, they were dining at the establishment when a staffer allegedly made inappropriate remarks towards them. This led to an argument. The couple claimed the staffer falsely accused them of abusive behaviour, leading to a physical assault. They also said the staffer confined them on the premises and subjected them to harassment until 2.30 am.
"The owner and his sons confined us to a corner of the eatery and abused us.
They even tried to molest me and assault my fiance after downing the shutters," the woman said.
In his complaint, the restaurant owner alleged the male patron initiated the conflict by engaging in a verbal dispute with the staff. The owner said the couple was drunk and became aggressive, hurling abuses and threats at the staff. The situation escalated when the couple damaged property. The owner said the staff acted in self-defence.
Cops have registered both an FIR and a counter FIR.
