Uncontrolled stunt biking on a public road has claimed the life of a young Polytechnic student in the Mukutmonipur tourist hub area of Bankura yesterday afternoon.
Twenty-one-year-old Monojit Mahato, who hailed from Shyamsundarpur in the Raipur Police Station area, was a student of Raipur Polytechnic College in Bankura. According to his family, he had come to his maternal uncle’s place at Haludkanali village near Mukutmonipur dam.
Monojit was a fond of motorbike stunts and, in the afternoon yesterday, he joined some of his biker friends and arrived at the dam area. The youths began high-speed bike stunts, including lifting the front wheel. While doing this, the rear wheel of Monojit’s motorcycle suddenly skidded. “He rammed into the guard wall on the dam at high speed, and the bike dragged him on the metalled road for about 70 metres, injuring him grievously,” a family member said.
The youth was taken to Bankura Sammelani Medical College & Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The Khatra police have initiated an unnatural death case.
