Guv files plaint against Kalyan, MP says ‘allegations mindless’

Kolkata: The Raj Bhavan on Tuesday filed a written complaint against Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee at Hare Street police station accusing him of multiple penal offences, including endangering "sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India." Banerjee immediately threatened to lodge a police complaint against the governor for instigating people against the Bengal govt and police by his acts and statements.
A Raj Bhavan official told PTI: "Yes, an FIR (read complaint) has been filed against the Trinamool MP for making such allegations against the constitutional head of the state. The doors of the Raj Bhavan were kept open for the Trinamool MP to conduct a thorough search and spot arms and ammunition, but the politician did not turn up."
"Such grave allegations cannot be made against the constitutional head for the sake of attacking him," he said. Earlier the official said, "The governor is set to move the Calcutta HC to file a defamation suit against Banerjee in connection with his defamatory comments regarding arms and ammunition being stacked inside the governor house."
Banerjee, however, seemed dismissive of the matter. He said: "Sending a letter does not mean an FIR. I understand the law better than CV Ananda Bose." He added that the governor himself had made provocative statements.
"I will also lodge a police complaint. He has accused me under 151 BNS. What does it say? It deals with the crime of assaulting or wrongfully restraining the President of India or a state governor with the intent to compel or restrain them from exercising their lawful powers. I have not met the governor in the past year-and-a-half. How does assault come in? Is he imagining things? How have I endangered the country's unity and integrity? Is he calling me a jihadi? People have elected me as an MP four times. These are mindless allegations. I will fight it out myself, I need none," he told reporters.
