  • A high-powered Election Commission of India team arrived at Krishnagar on Wednesday to take stock of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, signalling the Commission’s sharpened focus on accuracy and preparedness ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The six-member delegation, led by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti and West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal, held a detailed review meeting with district-level officials at the District Collectorate Office in Krishnagar. District Election Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Block Development Officers were present during the session.

Mr Agarwal chaired the meeting, closely assessing the progress of the SIR process and the field-level implementation of electoral roll revisions. After the review, he told the Media that he was “satisfied with the ongoing exercise,” noting that officials in Nadia were carrying out the work with “due diligence and adherence to the Commission’s directives.”

The team’s visit, officials indicated, was part of a wider state-level inspection aimed at ensuring clean and updated rolls well ahead of the polls. Following the Krishnagar review, the delegation proceeded to Murshidabad to conduct a similar assessment.
