Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the directors of telefilms to make serials to create social awareness and the Indian freedom movement.
She was addressing a gathering in connection with the Tele Academy Award 2025 at the Dhano Dhanyo auditorium this evening.
Miss Banerjee said the directors have a responsibility to create social awareness on various issues. “Many social customs have come up which were unheard of some years ago. It is your responsibility to make people aware of them. Tele serials can play a major role in intensifying social fabric. It has great educational value and can boost up the positive thoughts in individuals,” she said adding “social changes are reflected on the television serials and so one should be careful in projecting them.”
She said: “Many of our youths are unaware of the history of Bengal and its role in the Freedom movement. I do not request to make a tele serial on India’s freedom movement but if stories of freedom fighters are incorporated in the television serials then it will benefit the young generation greatly. They will be able to know what our ancestors did to make India free and will help to uphold the long cherished tradition of unity in diversity, which is practised in Bengal.”
Miss Banerjee said the impact of tele serials cannot be ignored and they help those who stay at home. “I watch television serials when I get time. I enjoy them. There are people who do not go out of their homes and for them tele serials are the only means of entertainment. Make good tele films which all members of the family can sit and enjoy,” she maintained.
She said the entertainment industry has given jobs to many. “Those who work behind the scenes like the technicians, cameramen, make-up artists, etc. work round-the-clock to make telefilms successful,” she remarked.
She lauded the artists and said: “They hardly have any personal life. They work round-the-clock and even during the Durga Puja they are busy attending shows in different television channels. I salute them for their work and sincerity.”
She gave away tele-awards to the best male and female actors and side actors.
