• SIR will decide 2026 outcome: Amit Malviya

  • BJP IT cell in-charge and West Bengal co-observer Amit Malviya on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her repeated criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls stems from “fear of political defeat” in the 2026 Assembly elections.

In a detailed post on social media platform X, Malviya claimed that Ms Banerjee is “dramatising” the SIR process as she realises “the noose is tightening”. According to him, the ruling Trinamul Congress is attempting to protect a voter base “created through fraudulent and illegal means”. Citing data on India’s land borders, Malviya noted that the country shares international boundaries with seven nations running a total of around 15,106.7 km, of which the 4,096.7-km border with Bangladesh is the longest and spans the states of West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.

Malviya accused the state administration of “facilitating documentation, providing cover and settling infiltrators in electorally strategic areas”. He further claimed that the “maximum number of fake Aadhaar cards” recovered nationwide had originated from North 24-Parganas, and that such cards were linked to illegal entrants across India. He reiterated long-standing BJP accusations that the Chief Minister had declined to provide land for completing over 400 km of border fencing and that state police had filed “frivolous cases” against BSF personnel, thereby hindering border management.

According to Malviya, Ms Banerjee’s electoral strength comes primarily from the Kolkata Presidency region — covering Kolkata and parts of South and North 24-Parganas — which he alleged has seen the “highest concentration of fake voters” alongside recurring incidents of poll-related violence.
