• MCH students protest against anatomy head’s harassment
    Times of India | 22 November 2025
  • Kolkata: Students of Medical College Hospital, Kolkata, staged a protest on Friday, alleging inappropriate behaviour by the head of the anatomy department towards a first-year MBBS student. The students further alleged that a female assistant professor of the same department defended the accused when the student confided in her. Demonstrators from the Medical College Students' Union (MCSU) submitted a deputation demanding action against the senior professor.

According to the complaint submitted to the college, the professor allegedly behaved indecently with the first-year student on multiple occasions, including inappropriate physical contact.

MCSU claimed this was not an isolated incident. "Similar allegations were raised by previous batches as well, but no action was taken," the deputation stated, calling the professor a "repeat offender".

While no police complaint has been lodged so far, the students have urged the college to suspend the professor and initiate an inquiry through the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). They have also sought an apology from the assistant professor for allegedly supporting the accused.

Sources in the college administration confirmed receiving the deputation and said the matter will be investigated.
