• Green, Yellow Lines to have additional services on Saturdays

  • Commuters in Kolkata are likely to have smoother journeys on Saturdays as the city’s two Metro networks are set to have an increased number of services on Saturdays.

    To begin with, the Purple Line that did not operate on Saturdays commercially, will now have 40 services on this day. Starting from tomorrow, the Purple is all set to have 20 services each in the up and down directions at an interval of 21 minutes.

    As announced by the city Metro office, the first service on Saturdays from Joka would start at 1.25 p.m. while that from Majerhat would run at 1.49 p.m. Likewise, the last services from Joka to Majerhat would be operated at 8.11 p.m. while from Majerhat to Joka would be run at 8.32 p.m. on Saturdays.

    The other corridor which also has been identified for additional commercial services on Saturdays is the Green Line. According to the authorities, The Green Line would now have 202 services, including 101 each in the up and down directions on Saturdays instead of 186 services from tomorrow. However, the timings of the first and last services in the East-West Metro Corridor have been kept unchanged.

    Meanwhile, the authorities of the city Metro are planning to install AI-based CCTV cameras in the Blue Line. According to the city Metro office, the AI based software will help to detect suspicious movement of humans and vehicles, intrusion, loitering as well as camera tampering. Apart from that, artificial intelligence will also help to search and detect fallen persons, colour and is also capable of doing combination search of human/vehicle and colour.
