In the wake of Delhi recent blast, security at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport has been further tightened, with the Airports Authority of India deploying an additional contingent of CISF personnel.
From Friday, 69 CISF jawans have been inducted, raising the total strength of the force at the airport to 2,102. Airport officials indicated that another 100 personnel are expected to join the security grid in the coming days. The heightened deployment follows the recent explosion in Delhi, prompting a comprehensive review of security protocols at major airports across the country.
Alongside the upgraded security apparatus, the Airport Advisory Committee convened its meeting yesterday at NSCBI Airport. The session was chaired by Trinamul Congress MP Saugata Roy and attended by a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from municipalities, state police, district administration, travel and airline associations, CISF, and other nominated members. The meeting was convened by airport director Vikram Singh. In his presentation, the airport director provided a detailed briefing on the prevailing traffic trends, infrastructural improvements currently underway, and long-term expansion plans for the airport. Singh highlighted key initiatives undertaken to bolster passenger experience, ease congestion, and enhance operational efficiency. These include augmentation of terminal facilities, improved signage, modernised passenger-handling systems, and measures aimed at strengthening airside operations.
Mr Roy lauded the ongoing development work and expressed confidence in the airport’s growing capacity to meet rising passenger footfall. He assured full support in resolving operational bottlenecks and emphasised the need for seamless coordination among all agencies functioning within the airport ecosystem. Efficient collaboration, he noted, was essential for elevating service quality and ensuring smooth functioning, particularly during peak travel periods. Stakeholders participating in the meeting echoed the need for sustained efforts to improve both security and passenger facilitation.
The deliberations concluded with a collective commitment to accelerate development projects, maintain stringent security standards, and ensure that NSCBI, Kolkata Airport continues to operate with enhanced efficiency and reliability. With the increased deployment of CISF personnel and renewed focus on infrastructure expansion, NSCBI Airport is poised for a significant upgrade in both safety and service standards in the months ahead.
