  • Tapati Biswas, a 60-year-old Booth Level Officer (BLO) from Konnagar and a resident of Konnagar Nabagram, suffered a cerebral attack last Wednesday. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted from Konnagar Matri Sadan Hospital to Kolkata Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night. Her MRI report revealed a cerebral haemorrhage.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, already deeply concerned about the SIR-related panic and recent deaths, spoke with Tapati Biswas’s family over the phone on Friday evening and assured them of the best possible treatment and every necessary support. The chief minister also sent financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh through the Serampore SDO.

Tapati Biswas, an anganwadi worker, is married to a retired jute mill worker. The financial support from the chief minister has come as a great relief to the distressed family.

She had been serving as the BLO for Ward No. 19 of Konnagar Municipality, Booth No 279 of Uttarpara Assembly. On Wednesday, while distributing SIR forms, she suffered a cerebral attack and was rushed to Konnagar Municipality Hospital.

Her husband, Prabir Biswas, alleged that she had been exhausted from repeatedly scanning QR codes and uploading data online. She had barely slept the previous night due to work pressure. Tapati had already distributed 1,160 enumeration forms and had 45 more left. The Serampore SDO, Mr Shambhudeep Sarkar, relieved her of SIR duties on Wednesday while she was undergoing treatment at Konnagar Hospital.
