  • Kolkata: The second-year English department student, Indranuj Ray, who was physically assaulted by four fourth-year engineering students on Tuesday, lodged a complaint with the Jadavpur University authorities on Friday. He stated that one of the chemical engineering students "bit his left arm and kept a firm grip in an attempt to rip apart the flesh" and caused "serious injury" to his eye. In his complaint, he mentioned that three other engineering students beat him badly by kicking him in his abdomen and hitting him on his nape with a blunt object.

Ray pointed out that this is not an isolated incident, as the boys were habitual offenders on the campus. "Several complaints from various stakeholders, including security guards, were lodged against them to the authorities, but lack of action from the administration gave them impunity to carry out hooliganism on the campus in an intoxicated state," Ray added.

The four boys — two from chemical engineering, one from civil engineering, and one from the production engineering department — have been prohibited from entering the campus until the panel, formed to investigate the complaint, finishes its inquiry.
