The body of a 33-year-old man was recovered on Saturday afternoon from a hotel room in Kasba’s Rajdanga area, police said, and investigators are tracing two people who were seen with him on CCTV. The deceased has been identified as Adarsh Losalka of Dubrajpur in Birbhum.
Police said Losalka had checked into the hotel on Friday night with a male and a female companion; all three were captured on CCTV entering the building and in the lobby. Footage later showed the two companions leaving the hotel while Losalka did not, officers added.
Hotel staff discovered the motionless man while cleaning the room the next day and noticed a deep wound on the back of his head. The Kasba police were alerted and teams from the dog squad and the forensic unit at Lalbazar attended the scene.
“Initially we suspect murder,” a senior police officer said. “The body has been sent for post-mortem and will be handed over to the family after formalities. We are examining CCTV footage to trace the movements of all three and are checking online booking and transaction records.”
Family members have been informed.
According to police, Losalka worked as a chartered accountant for a private firm in Kolkata and lived with friends in a rented apartment. The victim’s father, Bimal Losalka, told officers that his son had phoned the previous night saying he was going to New Alipore for work; subsequent calls went unanswered.
Investigators said the room had been booked online and that tracing the two companions is a priority. “Once we locate the other two who accompanied Adarsh to the room, there will be more clarity about what happened on Friday night,” the officer said.
The case follows a similar incident in October, when a decomposed body was found hidden in a hotel room storage area on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road. Police then suspected the man had been killed by two men who had accompanied him when he checked in. Authorities said they are probing whether there is any connection between the cases.
