  • Kolkata: A woman and a man, who had checked into a Kasba hotel with chartered accountant Adarsh Losalka (33), who was later found dead in the hotel room on Saturday, were arrested in less than 24 hours, on Sunday.

Losalka's body was found naked, his legs tied up. Police said his head bore a deep injury and that his death was due to asphyxiation.

The two arrested were Komal Saha (20), who claimed to be a content writer for the website of a dating app, and her male friend, Dhruba Mitra (20). Police said Komal was an escort and Dhruba her agent. It was Komal who had met Losalka on the dating app and fixed the meeting at the hotel after a long chat. Komal, a resident of Barrackpore, and Dhruba, a resident of Nadia, lived together at East Sinthi in Dum Dum.

Police said they tracked the whereabouts of the two with the help of CCTV footage, call records and cellphone tower locations. They subsequently surrendered themselves and confessed to the murder, said police.

Investigators said the two told them that an altercation broke out between Komal and Losalka over money after Komal went to his room to spend the night with him. While they were together, she demanded money, which Losalka apparently refused, saying he would pay her in the morning.

"This led to an altercation. The woman called Dhruba, who was in the next room. They claimed that during the altercation, Losalka fell down and suffered a head injury. The two then tied his legs, smothered him to death and fled with his phone and wallet," said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.

An officer said Losalka had booked two rooms at the hotel online. He, along with Komal and Dhruba, checked in around 8.30 pm on Friday. While he went to one room, the duo went to the other. Around 9 pm, Komal went to his room, and some time later, Dhruba joined them. The duo left the hotel at 1.30 am on Saturday, police said.

Police said they were still fixing the two's roles and the exact sequence of events. "Komal was the one who chatted with Losalka. We are checking why Dhruba was accompanying her and why Losalka agreed to pay for his room, as well," said an investigator.

Police said they were exploring multiple angles, including torture and sexual perversion. An officer said they were still searching for Losalka's mobile and wallet.
