Trinamul Congress will intensify the movement to put pressure on the Centre to release the dues of the state government, Abhishek Banerjee, party’s national general secretary said today.
Mr Banerjee today held a virtual meeting with functionaries of the party.
The party programme will be held in Delhi and most likely during the Winter Session of the Parliament which is scheduled to start in December.
Mr Banerjee said two delegations of the party will go to two departments, namely, the panchayat and rural development department and Jal Jiban Mission department. “We will see how the BJP and the Delhi Police can stop the movement held to uphold the rights of the people.
Mr Banerjee alleged that despite the Supreme Court order the Centre has not cleared the dues of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Movement Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The Trinamul Congress has denied the allegation that there had been corruption regarding allocation of the fund, he said.
He alleged that after 2021, Centre had deliberately refused to release funds relating to MGNREGA, Rural Development and supply of filtered water to rural households under the Jal Jivan Mission.
The party has already started the ground work to make the movement a success. Earlier, workers associated with 100 days’ work had staged a dharna in Delhi along with Trinamul Congress MPs. The minister refused to see the delegation and the police had forcibly evicted the MPs from the chamber of the minister for panchayat and rural development.
The party is not making a mere issue before the 2026 Assembly election, the common people who had worked in the MGNREGA programme should get their dues.
Mr Banerjee reiterated that if the name of a genuine voter is dropped from the electoral roll, the party will launch a movement. He said the party was not against conducting the SIR but it should not have been conducted in haste. Three BLOs have already lost their lives, unable to bear the load.
He urged the party workers to pull up their socks and ensure victory of the candidates in the Assembly election. “There is no chance for complacency and hardworking workers will be rewarded while the idle ones have no role in the party,” he said, adding, “The party workers should be vigilant and any attempt by the BJP to destroy the social fabric will be dealt with seriously.”
