  • Kolkata: Two fraudsters from Mysuru, who posed as Bangalore Police and Karnataka Police Crime Branch officers, looted more than Rs 1 crore from a 74-year-old Rajarhat resident while keeping him under ‘digital arrest' in a New Town hotel for three days.

The accused, Naveen R and Indradhanuj J, were picked up from Karnataka and brought to Kolkata on transit remand on Tuesday.

The victim received a call on Sept 8 from fraudsters posing as Bengaluru Police officers. They claimed his SIM card was used to circulate illegal advertisements and alleged he was linked to human trafficking. A fake SC directive was sent to intimidate him.

The callers instructed him to appear for "interrogation" at a New Town hotel. The victim spent the next three days in the hotel, making payments in multiple transactions.
