Warning party cadre against “repeating Bihar mistakes”, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday told them to ensure that one hundred per cent SIR enumeration forms are submitted.
Taking stock of the party’s work in the ongoing Election Commission Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the poll-bound West Bengal, the No.2 leader in the TMC, in a virtual address to over 25,000 party leaders and workers, reportedly said: “Submission of enumeration forms should be our bird’s eye focus… Not 99 per cent. We must ensure 100 per cent submission of enumeration forms.”
“If 10 per cent enumeration forms are left to be submitted somewhere, you will be defeated,” he warned.
Referring to the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, where the BJP-led NDA swept the polls that were held just after SIR was conducted there, the TMC MP said the party should not repeat the mistakes committed by the Opposition parties in the neighbouring state. “Our war rooms should remain on high alert. Our MLAs should lead the charge on this extremely important factor of the upcoming polls,” Banerjee said, adding the party would extend its ongoing ‘Vote Suraksha’ camps till January 31, next year.
Expressing displeasure over the work of some legislators, he told them to pull up their socks. “The Assembly election is no longer three months away. It is now. So, from now on, forget everything, and fulfill the responsibility given by the party leadership,” he reportedly said.
“Legally, we are fighting – we are fighting in the Supreme Court, in the High Court. We will also fight in Parliament. You have to fight in the field, in the court of the people, in the court of the voters,” Abhishek told party leaders.
“I have challenged. The TMC’s seat will increase. Our vote percentage will increase. You have to say these words from house to house,” he said.
He also said that a team of 10 MPs will go to the Chief Election Commissioner in New Delhi and demand an apology from him over the death of 35 people from “SIR fear”.
Meanwhile, an organizational meeting of the party has been called for North Kolkata on Tuesday. This meeting will be held at Mohit Mancha.
