• BSF busts gold, smuggling racket at B’desh border

  • On the basis of a specific tip-off, the by Field ‘G’ Team of BSF at Kishanganj apprehended an Indian national, Ratan Bishra, (23), a resident of Goalpokher post station in North Dinajpur, at IBBF gate while he was returning from his field situated ahead of fence, carrying bundle of dry branches of trees.

    The BSF team had received information regarding gold smuggling from the area of responsibility of Sector Kishanganj. On checking by the BSF troops, gold (weighing 1963.72 gm) was found concealed inside the bundle and two mobile phones were also recovered from the spot. The total estimated value of the seized items is approx Rs 2.5 crore.

    On the inputs provided by the apprehended person the BSF team further planned another operation and apprehended the rear link, namely Dhanaji Nam dev Bhuje (34), Malewadi village, Sangli district in Maharashtra from Caltex Chowk, Kishanganj.

    Further, both the apprehended persons were handed over to DRI Berhampur in Murshidabad district for further investigations. Both the catch along with gold seizure are very much important in busting the gold smuggling racket. The intelligence agencies were behind the racket of gold smuggling and after continuous efforts and activation of intelligence operatives, the alert BSF troops successfully apprehended the courier and its handler. After their interrogation more apprehensions may be seen in future.

    Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, SDG BSF (EC), lauded the efforts of troops of North Bengal Frontier for affecting notable seizure of gold & the busted gold smuggling rackets. He reiterated that the achievement reflect BSF’s commitment to destroy the gold smuggling-networks/rackets. Officers said that the BSF will continue to take such decisive action with zero tolerance against smuggling and illegal activities along the India-Bangladesh border.
