Serampore Ward 8 residents get new concrete road under APAS

The Amader Para, Amader Samadhan (APAS) scheme is a flagship campaign launched by the West Bengal government.
The APAS camps were held across various blocks of Hooghly district. Government officials, acting as facilitators rather than instructors, set a warm and inclusive tone. They guided discussions, clarified doubts, and ensured that everyone—especially women and the elderly—had their voices heard.
In the Uttarpara–Serampore block, an Amader Para Amader Samadhan centre was held at Milan Samity Club in Ward 8. Residents of Rupchand Chaprashi Lane raised concerns about the poor drainage system and the severely damaged road.
The road at Rupchand Chaprashi Lane in Ward 8, Serampore, had been in poor condition for a long time. The drainage system was badly affected, and during the monsoon the entire stretch would remain submerged in knee-deep water. The affected residents demanded the construction of a concrete road and the reconstruction of the drainage system, but their pleas went unheard for years.
With renewed hope, the residents approached the APAS centre at Milan Samity Club. Government officials listened patiently to the issues raised and assured prompt action to resolve the long-pending problems of the broken road, damaged drainage, and monsoon waterlogging.
Chairman-in-Council Gour Mohan De, who was present on the occasion, also assured that top priority was given to relay the drainage system and relaying a concrete surface on the road.
Serampore town president Santosh Singh said that work on the concrete road had been initiated from 22 November.
The residents are happy with the new concrete road and improved drainage system, and have expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the Amader Para Amader Samadhan scheme and for ensuring the construction of the new road under it.
