The Mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC), Bidhan Upadhyay, has laid the foundation stone for a new drinking water pipeline project under the AMRUT Scheme Phase III, at a cost of Rs 9 crore in Burnpur.
The total length of the pipeline will be 6.28 kilometres, running from the Surjan Nagar Pump House to areas such as Nakrasota and Quilapur.
Mr Upadhyay stated that once the drinking water pipeline project is completed, around 15,000 people living in Quilapur, Purusottampur, Surja Nagar, Saldanga, Damodar Line Para, Damodar Siuri Para and nearby areas will benefit.
“These areas under the Asansol South Assembly constituency face severe drinking water shortages, especially during the peak summer period. We had prepared a detailed project report (DPR) and sent it to the state government for approval. Recently, we received the approval and, with the foundation stone laid, the tendering process will begin soon. The project will be completed within the stipulated time frame,” Mr Upadhyay added.
The Deputy Mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation, Wasimul Haq, along with several borough chairpersons and councillors, were also present during the foundation stone-laying ceremony. Drinking water supply, regular sewerage cleaning and repairing potholes on civic roads are being given top priority by AMC, the mayor said.
