A complaint has been lodged against actor and BJP leader Rudranil Ghosh at Barasat police station, accusing him of obstructing government work, trespassing and issuing threats inside Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital.
Acting on the written complaint submitted by Dr Subrata Mondal, Additional Superintendent of the hospital, police registered an FIR on Tuesday and have initiated a probe. Confirming the development, Atish Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police (Zonal), Barasat district police, said: “Based on the superintendent’s complaint, a case has been registered against actor Rudranil Ghosh. The allegations include forcibly entering the hospital, obstructing government employees in their work and intimidating them. An investigation has begun, and the entire incident is being examined.”
According to sources, Ghosh had visited Barasat in North 24-Parganas on 19 November to attend a private invitation at a local residence. He later interacted briefly with party workers before heading to the office of the Additional Superintendent at Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital, where several doctors were present. He reportedly stayed there for around 30 minutes. During this period, he is alleged to have threatened the Additional Superintendent, prompting the written complaint to the police. Ghosh, however, dismissed all allegations as “fabricated” and politically motivated. Speaking to the media, he claimed the complaint was filed under pressure from senior Trinamul Congress leaders. “I spent about half an hour in a cheerful, friendly environment with the superintendent and other doctors. We chatted, laughed and even posed for selfies,” he said, adding that he had gone to the hospital to discuss recent allegations of molestation against a PGT doctor as well as issues related to patient care.
The BJP leader further alleged that the complainant himself was transferred to Kalimpong on the same day news of his visit spread. “To stop the transfer and under pressure, he filed this false complaint. I have photos and videos to prove what actually happened,” he said, claiming that the police had not contacted him yet. A senior district Trinamul Congress leader, however, rejected Ghosh’s assertion, terming his allegations against the ruling party “completely baseless”.
