Kolkata: BJP senior and Union minister Sukanta Majumdar faced "go back" slogans on Thursday when his convoy was halted in Diamond Harbour. Some of the agitators who tried to stop Majumdar were wearing saffron scarves and shouting "Jai Shri Ram" and "Dilip Ghosh Zindabad" slogans. But Majumdar said the agitators were Trinamool workers "camouflaging" as BJP members in a bid to misguide people into thinking that there was a rift within Bengal BJP.
The incident took place while Majumdar was on his way to meet party workers at Sarisha in Diamond Harbour, who were injured in a clash with Trinamool activists while they were distributing sweets to celebrate NDA's performance in the Bihar assembly elections.
As soon as Majumdar's convoy reached Sarisha, a group of agitators started shouting "Sukanta Majumdar go back" slogans. They claimed that seniors in the Bengal BJP were neglecting party workers and were not paying heed to them. Majumdar said, "This is a strategy of Trinamool in which they are trying to project the agitation as a mark of the party's internal feud. But we know this pattern now."
Abhijit Das, the local BJP neta in the area who was the saffron party's candidate in the Lok Sabha polls, said there was no rift within the party in the district. "A video clip has surfaced in which Sukanta da is heard saying that the agitators are my loyalists. I think that voice is morphed. He knows that the person who was leading the agitation with a saffron scarf had switched to Trinamool long back," Das added.
