A Bangladeshi national, identified as Nadeem Sardar living for 15 years in the industrial town of Dankuni in Hooghly district, was arrested after his abortive attempt to fill up the enumeration form (SIR) in the name of a dead person in the locality, official sources said.
The accused was caught by the family members of the dead person and handed him over to the local police.
Nadeem Sardar came about 15 years ago and got his Aadhaar card after paying Rs 4,000 to one Robin of Gobra and settled at Dankuni near Kolkata for one-and-a-half decades.
He was caught when he managed to have an enumeration form of Mohsin Khan, who died nine years ago, from the local BLO (block level officer), and attempted to fill the form in the name of the dead person.
However, the family members of Mohsin Khan of Ward No. 20 of Mathur Dangi village, noticed the fraud after going through the details and caught the Bangladeshi national and handed over to the Dankuni police. The police produced Nadeem Sardar and Robin before the Shrirampur court for judicial process.
