AICTE chairman to be chief guest at JU convocation

Kolkata: Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education T G Sitharam will be the chief guest at Jadavpur University's annual convocation on Dec 24.
"Five names — Nobel Laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, former ISRO chairman S Somanath, DRDO chairman Samir V Kamat, IIT Kharagpur director Suman Chakraborty, and the CEO of Anusandhan National Research Foundation Shivkumar Kalyanaraman — were approved by EC according to the order of preference to be the chief guest. Unfortunately, none of them are available. So, we held a meeting and the name of the AICTE chairman was finalised. He verbally agreed to come on Dec 24. The university will send him an official invitation soon," said an official.
The Friday meeting was attended by the vice-chancellor, pro-vice chancellor, registrar, and three deans.
