Expedite Basanti Highway street light installation: Cops

JCP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar has urged the PWD (electrical) to expedite the installation of street lights along Basanti Highway, a move that will improve visibility on the stretch and reduce crimes and the risk of accidents. Kumar made this request at the district road safety committee meeting on Friday.
PWD officials said detailed project report for the proposed widening of Basanti Highway to 12m included plans for street lighting. The report has already been submitted for financial approval. But given the import of illumination on the stretch, Kumar asked PWD (electrical) to draft a separate report, focused on street lights on Basanti Highway.
While PWD officials did promise to address the issue, another official from the South 24 Parganas division exressed concerns about the cost estimates for the installation and relocation of street lights within the Bhangar traffic guard jurisdiction. —Dwaipayan Ghosh
