The JBG Kolkata Marathon, “Cholo Dourai”, organised by Sportz, is likely to disrupt city traffic today as thousands of participants take to the streets. The event, now in its 10th edition, will be hosted at The Lalit Great Eastern, Kolkata and will see over 15,000 participants running through the city’s iconic Red Road and Maidan areas.

The marathon is expected to be a grand affair, with fitness icon Milind Soman and his wife Ankita Konwar gracing the event as brand ambassadors.

According to the Kolkata police, several roads will be closed or have restricted access from 4 am to 1 pm on Sunday, or till the completion of the marathon.

The affected areas include JL Nehru Road in between Lenin Sarani and AJC Bose Road crossing, AJC Bose Road (From Hastings Crossing to Mullick Bazar), New Road, Dufferin Road, Khidderpore Road, Casuarina Avenue, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane and Park Circus 7-point crossing.

The police have also advised drivers to plan ahead, as traffic will be restricted or diverted on several other roads, including Mayo Road, Dufferin Road Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, JL Nehru Road between Lindsay St and Middleton Street, AJC Bose Road, Camac Street between Theatre Road and Park Street, Free School St between Park St and Kyd Street, Wood Street, Hungerford Street and R A Kidwai Road, Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani Syed Amir Ali Avenue, Surawardy Avenue, P C Connector, New Park street, Orient Row and Talbagan Lane.
