  • KOLKATA: A BJP delegation led by opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari visited West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer in Kolkata on Monday, sparking protests from BLO Adhikar Raksha Committee members who have been demonstrating against excessive workload during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise.

The protesting members attempted to breach police barricades and shouted slogans as Adhikari and several BJP MLAs arrived at the CEO's office to meet officials.

The BLO forum members are seeking a two-month extension for the SIR deadline and compensation for families of deceased BLOs, citing heavy workload concerns.

The protests persisted while Adhikari and BJP MLAs met with Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal and Special Roll Observer Subrata Gupta inside the office.

The BJP delegation's scheduled visit was to discuss concerns regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state.

The BLO forum members continued their demonstration even as the opposition leaders conducted their meeting with electoral officials.
