Kolkata: With 96.4% of forms digitized by Monday evening, the number of ‘uncollectable' forms, including those of deceased electors, further increased to 43.3 lakh. A significant portion of these are deceased electors, which is close to 21.5 lakh, a senior EC official said.
‘Uncollectable' forms refer to enumeration forms that are not returned to BLOs with applicants' signatures on them.
"By 6 pm on Monday, out of 7.4 crore digitized forms, 43.3 lakh forms are uncollectable from deceased, duplicate, permanently shifted, and untraceable voters in Bengal. Of the 43.3 lakh forms, close to 21.5 lakh forms belong to deceased electors. The number of identified untraceable, permanently shifted, and duplicate electors are 5.5 lakh, 15.1 lakh, and 98,600 respectively so far," the official said.
As on Monday morning, EC data indicated that a total of 21,05,369 deceased voters have been identified.
EC on Monday told all election officers, "The data of dead persons would be available from Janma Mrityu Tathya/ Registrar General of Births and Deaths, cancellation of ration cards on death. EROs should verify the entries, if any, made by BLOs, for all such cases in the constituency."
Kolkata North had 1,01,457 deceased voters, much higher than Kolkata South, which had only 65,949 in the 2025 electoral rolls.
Among the districts, North 24 Parganas topped the list of ‘uncollectable' forms. It recorded 7% of such forms among 95% of the digitized forms so far. The percentage of uncollectable forms in the district is highest in Barrackpore — at 15.6%.
Most dead voters are also from North 24 Parganas. The number of deceased voters in this district is 2,75,337.
West Burdwan and South 24 Parganas are second and third highest, respectively, on the list. The districts with the least number of deceased voters are Jhargram with 19,574 and Kalimpong with 18,652.
