  • Kolkata: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking a review of the Supreme Court's verdict cancelling 25,753 jobs of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC), remarking that there will be no interference in the new recruitment process either.

The husband of a candidate, who lost her job when the 2016 panel was scrapped by Calcutta High Court, which was upheld by the Supreme Court, moved the two-judge bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

While acknowledging that some untainted candidates were affected by the cancellation of the entire panel, Justice Kant remarked that if they were good, they would be re-employed by being successful in the ongoing fresh recruitment process. He noted that the person was free to approach Calcutta High Court, where a variety of matters regarding the fresh selection process were pending. As per the SC order of April 3, this selection process needs to be completed by Dec 31.

The Supreme Court specified earlier that no tainted candidate should be allowed to slip through in the fresh rounds of recruitment "under any pretext".

The fresh recruitment process, at several points, was embroiled in legal disputes. After the completion of written exams, various matters pertaining to the 2025 rules, based on which the process is being conducted, are also pending before the bench of Justice Amrita Sinha. The cases include age, prior job experience marks, and whether teachers with experience as part-time or in private schools can be given experience marks, amongst other issues.
