• 9 jailed for 3 yrs in 4 wildlife crime cases in Alipurduar

  • Alipurduar: As many as nine persons have been convicted in four separate wildlife crime cases in Alipurduar. Court has awarded a jail sentence of three years and fine of Rs 50,000 in each of the cases.

    In the first case, Ejajul Hoque, Sekendar Ali and Babla Barman were found guilty of illegal possession and trade of hog deer antlers. In the second case, Manik Hussain Sarkar, Manirul Hoque and Asraf Hossain were convicted for trafficking tokay geckos.

    In the third case, Kailash Baraik was convicted for the poaching and possession of barking deer meat and antlers. In the final case, Bikash Barman and Arup Gupta were convicted for the illegal trafficking of a live pangolin.
