Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamul Congress national general secretary today inaugurated Sebaashray 2 camps at Maheshtala in south 24-Parganas.
As Sebaashray 2 officially rolled out across the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, the initiative had its launch of a dedicated theme song. Rooted in the philosophy of “Jib Seba-e Shiv Seba” (service to mankind is service to god), the song reinforces the core belief that people always come above politics.
This is the first time that Sebaashray got a campaign song which captures the spirit and purpose of the large-scale public health mobilisation conceptualised by TMC national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, who has once again brought back the initiative with a renewed pledge, “Sokoler suswastha amader ongikar.” (good health for all is our commitment)
It positions Sebaashray not just as a government-driven public health programme, but as a people-centric mission rooted in empathy, accessibility, and continuity.
The initiative provides free medical treatment to the residents of Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. Mr Banerjee visited the camp at Chowk Chandul at Rathtala. The other camp was set up at Bata Stadium (Newland) ground, Maheshtala.
Taking cue from the success of Sebaasjray 1 camps which ended early 2025, Mr Banerjee announced setting up of the camps on his birthday.
Mr Banerjee said: “Kalighat is my janambhumi while Diamond Harbour is my karmabhumi. I thank god for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of the area.”
Mr Banerjee said the Sebaashray camps will be held in every Assembly segment that fall under Diamond Harbour Parliamentary for seven days. Follow up camps will be held from January 24 to 28, next year.
The camps will be held for seven days in Maheshtala. It will then move to Metiabruz and then to Budge Budge. It will be held at Satgachia, Falta and Diamond Harbour.
The model camps will have specialised doctors which include cardiologists, oncologists, neurologists, eye specialists, general medicine and orthopaedics.
Mr Banerjee said Sebaashray 1 camps were attended by 12 lakh people. Between 2,000 to 2,500 people had their cataract operations and around 7,000 people were referred to state-run and private hospitals where many of them were admitted and received treatment. In such cases, the expenditure was borne by Mr Banerjee.
He said in Sebaashray 1 camps, 40,000 people got their eyes checked. Spectacles were also given out for free. He said at the last Sebaashray camps, many people also came from different districts and received treatment. Open heart surgery was done to Altaf Hossain, a seven-year-old boy and he is keeping well.
These referral cases were followed up by a team of dedicated Sebaashray workers and doctors, said Abhishek.
