Kolkata: A jeweller alleged that he was duped by another jeweller who provided him with fake gold biscuits in lieu of a gold bar.
The complainant, Samar Ray, a resident of Mahendra Nagar, North 24 Parganas, alleged that on Nov 20, his employee Manoj Pal handed over 258.8 grams of gold to the accused. In return, Pal received two gold biscuits from the accused. However, upon inspection, Ray discovered that the biscuits were counterfeit. Efforts to contact the accused proved futile.
The probe revealed that the accused has fled from his rented residence in Rishra. During a raid, the accused's father surrendered several suspicious items to the police, which were subsequently seized. The case has raised concerns about the prevalence of gold-related frauds in the region, prompting authorities to intensify their search for the accused.
