• TMC MPs pose questions Centre on various issues

  • TMC MPs holding the central government accountable through dozens of questions asked during Question Hour in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Monday, the first day of Winter Session of Parliament.

    In the Lok Sabha, while Abhishek Banerjee asked questions on youth unemployment rate, which stood at 10.2 per cent, Sharmila Sarkar’s question revealed that there are 62 Kendriya Vidyalayas in West Bengal and 1,405 KVs across India, yet Bengali is taught as a regional language only in three KVs.

    June Maliah and Saayoni Ghosh revealed that out of 3,96,181 applicants for PM internship scheme, only 16,060 joined the scheme i.e. 4 per cent and out of 2,25,410 applications from SC and ST, only 3,166 applicants joined internship i.e. 1.4 per cent. Only 95 interns were given offer letters after completion of internship; One out of five candidates who accepted offers under both rounds of the PM Internship Scheme left mid-way without completion of internship; ⁠Only 95 interns were given offer letters after completion of internship out of 16,060 who were interning i.e. 0.6 per cent.

    Mahua Moitra (Clubbed with another MP) revealed that LIC invested Rs 5,000 crore in secured NCDs of Adani Ports & SEZ (APSEZ) in May 2025. Total exposure of LIC in Adani group of companies Rs 48,285 crore; Exposure of LIC in Adani group increased by 16,227 per cent between 2007 and 2025. There are 7 Adani group companies out of the top 100 companies in terms of LIC’s exposure. Adani groups constitute 5.3 per cent of all private-sector investments of LIC. LIC’s equity investment in Adani is higher than its investment in SBI, which is its largest equity holding in the public sector. On Kalipada Saren Kherwal question, the Centre revealed that only one out of two students are proficient in numeracy.

    In the Rajya Sabha

    Mohammed Nadimul Haque got the reply that between 2022-23 and 2020-21, pre-matric scholarship decreased by nearly 94 per cent; Between 2022-23 and 2020-21, post-matric scholarship decreased by nearly 81 per cent; Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means based Scholarship Schemes have not been approved for implementation beyond 2021-22.

    Ritabrata Banerjee’s question revealed that one out of five positions vacant in the ministry of civil aviation. Group A posts had 12 per cent vacancies, Group B had 12 per cent, and Group C had 34 per cent.
