Will ensure the teachers can join schools at the earliest: Education minister after HC order
The Statesman | 4 December 2025
State education minister Bratya Basu reacting to the high court verdict today said the department will ensure that 32,000 primary teachers can join their school at the earliest.
He said Trinamul Congress was with the teachers and will continue to do so in future.
A division Bench of Calcutta High Court today set aside the single Bench order and confirmed security of service of 32,000 teachers.
Former Justice Abhijit Ganguly, now the BJP Lok Sabha MP, had given the single Bench order.
Quoting the judgement of the Division Bench, Mr Basu congratulated the judgement and said it has saved the lives of the primary teachers, who had been criticised for being manipulative following the single Bench order. Questions can be raised whether the single Bench order was biased and vindictive or not and pronounced to satisfy a political party. Leaders of that political party and a section of the media had portrayed the teachers as if they were all involved in corruption.
The leaders of a political party had attached stigma and a section of the media fanned them. “The teachers should see who are with them and who are against as those groups with vested interest are saying that they would move the Supreme Court against the division Bench’s order. We are in favour of protecting the interest of the teachers and they fight to snatch their rights,” said the education minister.
Tauseefur Rehman, TMC spokesperson, reacted to the verdict saying, “The HC verdict is a slap on the face of the anti-Bengal BJP. They had got the order cancelling jobs for 32,000 teachers. But the numbers were not just 32,000, it was much more as their family members were also being affected. Can you imagine what hardships they might have faced due to the verdict? It was just because of former justice Abhijit Ganguly, who was clearly working for the BJP and his decision was unethical and biased. These anti-Bengali acts will always be remembered by the people.”
