• TMC doesn’t practise communal politics: Mamata on party MLA’s suspension

  • West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asserted that the Trinamool Congress does not practice communal politics following the suspension of the party’s Bhararapur MLA Humayun Kabir over his Babri Masjid construction remarks,

Addressing a rally in minority-dominated Murshidabad, she said, “TMC does not practice communal politics. People of Murshidabad will not accept politics of riots.”

Her remarks came hours after the TMC suspended Kabir, its own MLA from the Bharatapur Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district. Kabir had recently announced plans to construct a Babri Mosque at Beldanga in the same district, resembling the structure in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which was demolished in December 1992.

TMC leader Firhad Hakim said by announcing the construction of the Babri Mosque, the legislator had actually tried to reignite the bitter memories of the original Babri Mosque in 1992. “We feel that the BJP has some role to play in his recent activities. We also feel that the BJP is trying to ignite divisive politics by keeping Kabir in the forefront,” he claimed.

Won’t allow NRC in Bengal: Mamata

The Bengal CM assured minority communities that she will not allow the National Register for Citizens (NRC) or detention camps in the state.

“I will not allow NRC or detention camps in Bengal even if they slit my throat. No one will be driven out,” she declared.

Attacking the ruling BJP over the deaths of BLOs under the alleged pressure of SIR (special intensive revision) exercise, Banerjee said, “More than half of those who died in SIR-related incidents are Hindus… do not cut the very branch you are sitting on.”

She further accused the saffron party of indulging in politics of religious lines over the SIR issue.
