Kolkata: The state approached the Supreme Court against the Calcutta HC order of posting Aniket Mahata at RG Kar instead of Raiganj Medical College.
Mahata, a prominent face of the RG Kar agitation, had moved the single bench of Justice Biswajit Basu, challenging his transfer order to Raiganj Medical College. Justice Basu had ordered his deployment at RG Kar with immediate effect.
The state challenged it before the division bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra, which upheld the single bench order. Mahata said, "Despite the HC order, I have still not been allowed to join RG Kar. A contempt of court case was filed against the state and the hearing took place on Thursday."
AG Kishore Datta told the court the state moved the SC. About the state going to SC, Mahata told TOI: "It is expected. I am preparing to fight the case in the Supreme Court."
